Finally, my photos in a magazine!

After a very tiring week, finally I have time to complete a short post. I was busy juggling my time for a science carnival where my school participated and the School Prefect's camping at OBS in Kinarut. Luckily, came some great news to cheer on coming this week.

For the recently concluded Sabah state level science carnival, my school participated in some of the competitions and I was in charged for the Solar Car Race with three students. It was the first time the carnival is held here, and the first for my school as well.

To cut the story short, we came second! Not bad for a slow car during the early stage of the competition. More on that in my next post.

The next good news is that my photos finally being published in a Brunei-based travel magazine can biG or Borneo Insider's Guide. I have five of my Serikin Market photos in their latest edition magazine. You can check the online version here. The feeling of seeing your photos being published is awesome, especially for a hobbyist like me.

2011 DBKK Kaamatan Festival - Sony Alpha Challenge

It's May, and the annual cultural event, Kaamatan is just around the corner. And on the 12 May, Sony Malaysia collaborated with Dewan Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu (DBKK) for the Kaamatan Festival held at Lintasan Deasoka, Kota Kinabalu. For this event, Sony organised a photo challenge of its Alpha camera users, whereby DBKK has provided some media pass for us to use.

I am one from a bunch of friends who registered for the event. Part of the excitement came from the prize offered to the best photo. It is a Sony DVD player and top 5 finalist will get Sony premium gifts.

Rungus traditional costume.

So much composure...

This is one of the few photos I submitted and it was selected to be one of the finalist!

The prize-giving ceremony was held at Karamunsing complex last Sunday, in conjunction with the Sony carnival. I didn't get the DVD player though, but received a nice, big umbrella and this book.

It featured photos from a photo contest with the 'soccer' theme in mind in conjunction with the 2010 Fifa World cup.

This aside...I just received a good news which lifted up my enthusiasm in photography. A travel magazine based in Brunei are interested in some of my photos and currently I'm editing the photos before submitting those to them. I can say that their offer is just nice for an amateur like me. :D

Digital Camera Magazine April 2010

Every month, I would always visit my favourite magazine shop to get my copy of Digital Camera Magazine(Malaysia edition) where they write about new cameras, lenses, photo competition and Photoshop techniques.

April 2010 issue.

However, this month's issue caught my attention on some few things which irk me a little. First, there's the Alpha A850 review. It came rather late though as the camera was launched way back in August 2009. Okay, better late than never.

Aaaa...finally.

The other thing about the A850 review is the type of lens that was mounted on the cam.

Look closely...

It 's the Sony's 18-70mm f3.5-5.6 kit lens, a DT lens meaning it was built suitably for APS-C bodies. The IQ(image quality) of the lens is okay, but not that great and it was replaced with the new 18-55mm. I'm not sure if the writer, Trevor Jones took the shots featured in the review using the kit lens because if he did, it would somehow be a handicap situation for the camera itself. I would love to see a review of the camera with the Sony's G or Carl Zeiss lenses.

Then, came the flashguns test. Let's see which flash units were picked.

Eh, no Sony's flagship F58 or other makes flashgun? I really hope to see a review(or a test) for F58 considering it's the only flashgun that enables vertical or portrait shooting with its unique bounce head. Now I don't know what to say to this guy here.

Irk aside, I still dig the magazine's post-processing techniques. See what's in store for the May issue. Till then happy shooting!

Too old to read? Wrong! Mags for the 60 years old and above in Japan.

Before you proceed, I must advise those in their 40's and below. If you find wrinkles in lingerie and sagginess will cause uncomfortable and discomfort to you and your tummy, please do not browse further. If you do, you might need to prepare some tissues or air sickness bag. I won't be held responsible if your laptop and monitor broke down, or the hours spent cleaning your room because of your sudden 'outburst'.

Advise number two. If you're eating now, please stop before browsing further. If your menu is somewhat so delicious, finish it first. Don't browse this post while drinking. You would not want those tasty coke or coffee coming out right through your nose. But it would make a nice nasal cavity cleaner though. Hehe. If you're the type of person that perceive magazine covers are only with nice curves, clean, fair and beautiful faces together with slim bodies, then this post might not be suitable for you.

Alright. Back to the topic. The Japanese have been known of their rich culture, their ninjas, nice cars and their modern technology that we all fond of and envy sometimes because some if it are 'Japanese exclusive only' things. They are also known to take good care of their older citizens, staying in modern homes with trained workers to take care of their needs.

Some says that you're never too old to learn. I guess that's true as the Japs published magazines for their elder counterparts as well. I don't know if these mags can sell, but I think it's a nice idea to cater their reader's need as well. It comes with front page covers that might pop their eyes out and jaws dropping.

Is the tissue in your hands now?

What is she doing?

The cover models still can strut their stuffs just like this one...
